Hubble Telescope: 20 facts and photos

Google is celebrating the 20 years of service that the Hubble Telescope has given to NASA by a Doodle on its search engine home page. Before 1990 most people would often stare up to the stars and wonder what it was like out there, the launch of the Hubble Telescope has helped answer so many of our questions.

The telescope was named after U.S. astronomer Edwin Hubble; he was one of the first to insist that the universe had more than one galaxy. If only those who doubted him could be here today to see the latest facts and photos – thanks to the efforts of the aging Hubble Telescope.

This fantastic achievement in technology makes it possible to see images of nebulas, galaxies and other wonders in the universe much clearer than a land-based telescope – this is because there is no distortion form the earth’s atmosphere.

Hubble has managed to take images of over 30,000 objects in the universe, some of the most popular we have listed for you below:..more

“Hubble” is as big as a bus, but much faster. With 28,000 km / h Space Telescope orbits the Earth in 97 minutes. 20 years ago, on 24 April 1990, it was transported from the U.S. Space Shuttle “Discovery” in his 600 kilometer-high orbit and tags exposed to it. For the anniversary takes place in many places in Germany, this year’s Astronomy Day in honor of Hubble.
